Today // 53 of 365 :: A Love Letter for You

Melodee and I explored the city a bit this morning on a mural tour through West Philly with the Mural Arts Program. It was cool to venture out to parts we wouldn’t normally go and soak in some urban culture. It was Melodee’s Valentine’s Day gift to me, so it’s only fitting that we went on the “A Love Letter for You” tour, which focuses on a series of murals made by Philadelphia native and former graf-artist, Stephen Powers, who is now a New York based gallery artist. The series consists of 50 rooftop murals from 45th to 63rd streets along the Market Street corridor and “collectively expresses a love letter from a guy to a girl, from an artist to his hometown, and from local residents to their West Philadelphia neighborhood.”

I definitely recommend taking the tour or one of the many tours that the Mural Arts program has. It was only an hour long and we had a good time. I pass by so many of these murals everyday and it was pretty cool to know the meanings behind some of them and how they came to be.
