project 52 // week 25 :: F*cancer!
Published June 22, 2010
Four years ago, we set out on our first triathlon at the Wyckoff-Franklin Lakes Sprint Tri in New Jersey with Team in Training and my friend Derick memorialized the passing of his mother to cancer with each stroke, pedal, and step of the way. Four years and dozens of races later, here he is racing the same race wearing his cause loud and proud on his sleeve. He has formed a charity in honor of his mother, Zenaida, aptly named F*cancer and continues to inspire with his one pointedness and dedication to the sport and to fighting cancer. On July 25th of this year, he will climb new heights, both literally and figuratively, as he traverses 140.6 miles at the Lake Placid Ironman Triathlon. Read more of his inspiring story here.
